Schiava 'Vernatsch 448 slm' Girlan 2023

The Schiava “Vernatsch 448 slm” from the Girlan winery is a delicate, fresh, and light red wine produced in Cornaiano, in the province of Bolzano, in South Tyrol. This label is made from pure Schiava grapes sourced from vineyards located on hills at about 448 meters above sea level, characterized by excellent sun exposure and significant temperature variations between day and night. The vines, sheltered to the north by the Alps, are cultivated using the trellis method on soils primarily composed of sandy-clay and rich in minerals. The winery is a cooperative reality in South Tyrol that today counts on 200 member suppliers and about 215 hectares of vineyards, the result of a history of great success and long tradition.

The “Vernatsch 448 slm” Schiava from Girlan is produced with carefully selected grapes that are hand-harvested in small containers at the moment of their ideal ripeness. The bunches, upon reaching the winery, are destemmed and gently pressed to then undergo alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with daily frequent pump-overs and a long maceration on the skins. Subsequently, the wine is separated from the skins using pressing, after which it remains in aging for several months in cement tanks before being bottled and finally ready for market release.

The Schiava “Vernatsch 448 slm” from Girlan presents itself with a beautiful bright ruby red color. On the nose, intense aromas of red fruits and berries emerge, including cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, floral notes of rose and violets, light spicy hints of tobacco and pink pepper, and then shifting to hints of dried fruit, including almond. On the palate, it is enveloping, soft, and delicate, characterized by great and pleasant freshness that extends the finish, making each sip very enjoyable. This wine from the Girlan winery is an expressive red of the territory, velvety and elegant, which thanks to its versatility is well suited to every moment of the meal.
