The Wine Box Primitivo is perfect for those who prefer intense, soft, and enveloping reds, characterized by rich and ripe fruit and a pleasant and persistent sip. The selection includes some of the most interesting labels produced in Puglia, which faithfully reflect the varietal characteristics of the grape, highlighting the warm and sunny profile typical of the Mediterranean area. A great wine from our south, increasingly appreciated abroad for its immediate drinkability, its typicity, and recognizability. At the table, it pairs very well with mixed grills, with beef cooked over coals or on a spit.
Primitivo, along with Negroamaro, is the symbol of Puglian winemaking. However, the grape variety is not native to the Salento peninsula but comes from the other side of the Adriatic Sea. Its genetic makeup is identical to that of an ancient grape variety from Montenegro, the kratošija, which arrived in Puglia a long time ago and was renamed Primitivo for its early ripening period compared to
to the other grapes of the area. Today it is cultivated in almost the entire region, but there are two areas that are particularly interesting and where it expresses itself with different profiles. In the Manduria and Sava area, on deeper, clayey, and sandy soils, it produces powerful and concentrated wines, rich and dense, while on the limestone soils located at altitude in Gioia del Colle, it expresses fresher, smoother, and more elegant wines.
